Marissa Newberry-Roberts was initiated at Epsilon Pi Chapter (George Mason) in 2004. She joined Gamma Phi Beta because she wanted to be a part of a circle of strong women and build lifelong friendships. As a member of the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter, Marissa serves on exec as the Programming and Public Relations Vice President. She is hoping to use her planning skills to create a fun and diverse calendar of events for sisters of all ages, encouraging sisters in the area to become more involved in alumnae life. Outside of Gamma Phi Beta, Marissa works as a project manager and a realtor. She is very passionate about her involvement with the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and organizes a yearly fundraising event for the association in memory of a dear friend who passed away. She also organizes the event in honor of those who are living with a congenital heart defect (CHD) like her father. Marissa also serves on the Community Activities Committee of her Homeowner’s Association. Being a member of Gamma Phi Beta has taught Marissa how to have more meaningful relationships and introduced her to some of the most important people in her life. She has enjoyed the opportunities the sorority has given her to give back to the community through service events and philanthropy. She has also enjoyed the countless social events that she has participated in. Marissa lives in Clifton with her husband, Mark, and their soon-to-be legacy, who will making her grand entrance in the next couple weeks! Congratulations, Marissa and thank you for all you continue to do to promote the highest form of womanhood!

August 1. HAPPY NEW YEAR to Gamma Phi Beta! Yes, August 1 is the first day of the fiscal year for Gamma Phi Beta....and our collegiate and alumnae chapters.
We're looking forward to meeting more confident women of character. We're looking forward to celebrating sisterhood. We're looking forward to continuing to make a difference in Gamma Phi Beta.

What are YOU looking forward to in our New Year?!

Please be sure to pay your yearly local & national dues! When we joined Gamma Phi Beta, we committed to lifelong membership. Your local dues are the only source of income for the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter. The fiscal year is August 1 - July 21 each year. Your local dues support our chapter by: operating expenses and maintaining the website, assisting our local collegiate chapter, awarding scholarships through the Gamma Phi Beta Foundation and Founder's Day.

If you are a 2019 grad, please contact Membership Vice President, Elizabeth Denning, for a discount coupon for your first year local dues!

If you would prefer to pay via check, our mailing address is PO Box 23001 Alexandria, VA 22304

Elizabeth Denning was initiated at Epsilon Pi Chapter (George Mason) in 2010. As an alumnae, Liz holds multiple volunteer positions, including Recruitment Advisor for Epsilon Pi, Membership Vice President of the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter, and Founders Day Chairwoman. She also uses her graphic design skills to keep our website up-to-date and beautiful! Liz joined Gamma Phi Beta because she wanted to have a community of support and a home away from home. She is very dedicated to the Sorority and finds fulfillment and joy each day in serving the sisters of Gamma Phi. The Sorority continues to give her the companionship and support that she desires, and she continues to “pay it forward” to the sisters that have followed her. Outside of Gamma Phi Beta, Liz is an MBA student and works as an administrative assistant. She also does freelance graphic design and helps run an Etsy shop (BellaCuttery). We are excited to have Liz returning to her roles within our chapter this year and we appreciate her dedication to our chapter and the Sorority.

Spring 2019 Sister Spotlight - Simay Okyay

Simay Okyay was initiated at Zeta Beta Chapter at The University of Virginia in 2011. She joined Gamma Phi because she felt the sorority is made up of diverse, genuine and driven women who empower one another. She currently serves as the Collegiate Chapter Supervisor for Region 2 on the International level, and is the Philanthropy chairwoman for the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter. Simay is also an Associate Board Member for Girls on the Run NOVA where she has served since graduating college. Outside of Gamma Phi Beta, she is a board member of The University of Virginia Club of Washington DC (DC Hooes), which is the official UVA alumni club in the DC area. Professionally, Simay works in health policy consulting and is currently a Master of Public Health candidate at George Washington University. In her spare time, she enjoys taking dance lessons and travelling. Gamma Phi Beta means so much to Simay, and she says it best herself- “Gamma Phi Beta means empowering young women to find and use their voice by providing a safe space where they have the opportunities to become who they will be as young adults in their professional and personal lives after graduation. Gamma Phi Beta also means a lifelong support system of sisters whom you know and love and of sisters across the country who you never would have known otherwise. Gamma Phi Beta means opportunity; we do not say "not four years but for life" without reason!” We are excited to have Simay as a member of our chapter. She is such a happy person who exudes confidence and grace. Simay, thank you for volunteering your time and talent to our beloved sorority!
